Dawson Creek. As a Registered Dietitian working in a rural community I work with people that are faced with food security challenges on a daily basis. I can blabber on and on about how healthy eating doesn’t have to be expensive and can be done on a limited budget, but I am very quickly silenced when someone tells me that all they can afford to buy is peanut butter and bread. I have pledged to take the challenge to raise awareness of the human suffering that results from social assistance below the poverty line; to challenge myself to experience a small glimpse of the hardship that a person on social assistance experiences; and to advocate for the health of the people I work with.
