I’ve been involved in food security for 20 years – from the time we sat at tables as representatives of emergency food providers with health and civic authorities that made fun of us and didn’t know what we meant. I currently farm garden to feed my family as much as I can without going to stores, but even that requires cash inputs at some points in the year and we can’t grow all we need yet. I continue to work with the homeless population in Campbell River and know the challenges they face.
I’m taking this challenge to demonstrate to those that set support rates, that even someone with my education, support, experience and skills, along with my garden, can hardly make it on $21/week. But some of what I can do, I can pass along to my clients.
