Chantelle Sutton, Prep for the Challenge

First step for me is making a meal plan for the week of foods I think are cheap.

Meals:
Breakfast: oatmeal
Lunch: peanut butter and banana sandwich
Snack: apple, popcorn
Dinner options: KD, tomato soup, eggs, veg burgers, broccoli

Next step is pricing out my items. I went to Walmart this weekend to get an idea of what is the cheapest price I could get for my items.

Shopping list:
Bananas-6 weigh 2.5 lbs @ $.77/lb=$1.93
Apples- 1 bag is $4.47
Broccoli- $1.09/ lb, 2lbs =$2.18
Eggs- 12 for $2.67
Skimmed milk- 2L for $3.57
Bread- $2.07 (Walmart brand)
Oatmeal- $2 a box (Walmart brand)
Peanut butter-$2.64 (Walmart brand)
Tomato Soup- $1.07/ can, 2 cans is $2.14 (Walmart brand)
Kraft dinner- $.87/box, 2 boxes $1.74 (Walmart brand)
Veg burgers- pack of 4 $4.97
Butter was too expensive so I picked margin for $1.86 (Walmart brand)
Air Pop Popcorn $1.67/bag

TOTAL $33.91

Guess I’m going to have to entice Alan Reyon to join me!

(later)
YEAH! Alan is in! (Like he had much choice….. )

I have to redo my shopping list to accommodate him which includes adding coffee to the list but we now have a combined allowance of $42

New shopping list:
Bananas-12 weigh 5 lbs @ $.77/lb=$3.85
Apples- 1 bag is $4.47
Broccoli- $1.09/ lb, 2lbs =$2.18
Eggs- 12 for $2.67
Skimmed milk- 2L for $3.57
Bread- $2.07×2=$4.14 (Walmart brand)
Oatmeal- $2 a box x2 = $4 (Walmart brand)
Peanut butter-$2.64 (Walmart brand)
Tomato Soup- $1.07/ can, 2 cans is $2.14 (Walmart brand)
Kraft dinner- $.87/box, 2 boxes $1.74 (Walmart brand)
Veg burgers- pack of 4 $4.97
Butter was too expensive so I picked margin for $1.86 (Walmart brand)
Air Pop Popcorn $1.67/bag
coffee $4.47

TOTAL $39.90

My challenge to you guys: from Oct 16–21, keep all of the receipts for any food items you buy whether it be a coffee or groceries. At the end of the week add them up. (and if you are comfortable, post the amount here).
