I’m from the Community Leadership team from Princess Margaret Secondary School. I participated in the Welfare Food Challenge and made it one week spending only $ 26 on food.
To begin with, I was really excited to hear that our school is doing a program to raise awareness about poverty in our province. I was surprised that British Columbia is the only province that doesn’t have a poverty reduction plan. Participating in the Welfare Food Challenge was extremely tough and hard. The most hardest part was when my family’s eating whatever they want while I could only eat what I had. The second hardest part was to be on guard. My school give out fruits and vegetables, and I couldn’t accept the offer. I also have to be very careful to stay on budget.
