Participant bio – Barbara & James Atkins
Name: Barbara Atkins
Live: North Vancouver
About myself: I have always been interested in social justice. For me this means standing with/walking with/marching with those who are victims of injustice. I am a grandmother, wife and mother of 3 sons.
Why doing the Welfare Food Challenge: To increase my personal understanding by having the visceral experience that this challenge will no doubt produce and to bring awareness to others of the lack of nutritious food available to many British Columbians.
My worries: That I will be cranky with my husband if I am not getting my usual fix of chocolate, coffee, etc
Name: James Atkins
Live: North Vancouver.
About myself: I am in Medical Sales, dealing with diabetes a great deal of my time. Educating and training.
Why doing the Welfare Food Challenge: I am taking the challenge to have a real feel of some of the issues creating disease states in the poor through malnutrition.
My worries: I am worried about hunger, eating well enough to stay healthy and not falling into the fast food trap.
